Writing About a Research Position in a ResumeWhen writing about a research position in a resume, remember to put the company first. If the title is too generic, the job can be dismissed as unimportant.Remember that a job description is only one page of information that employers are looking for. The actual description or facts about the position should be in paragraphs of four to six lines of text. Put the company first by including 'The Company', and 'Company Name' at the top of the first paragraph and list the names of the two other paragraphs in the second paragraph.Use bullet points to break up the job description. These can be in plain language to indicate technical points. But they should be followed up with bullet points in another section of the resume. Use these bullet points to refer to more specific aspects of the job.Place the largest amount of data in the first paragraph and the smallest amount in the last paragraph. This is to make it easier for the reader to skim throu gh. A reader can quickly become overwhelmed if you have filled the first paragraph with data and filled the last paragraph with important but tiny information. Write down these tasks as they are presented to you. How To Turn On Your Top Employees At Work - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Simplifying organizations is the groundwork for competitive advantage-Yves Morieux,  senior partner and managing director in BCG’s Paris office. (He is an expert in corporate transformation) Despite breathtaking advances in communication technology, many people still feel miserable and disengaged at work. Companies try many things to remedy this situation by sponsoring affiliation events, celebrations and leadership development programs. While the goal of these programs is to train managers on how to better motivate their teams, research shows they are ineffective. Employees at many of the world’s largest firms still report having low moral and lack the motivation and the desire to give more of themselves at work. Employees are frustrated by rules, which diminish their authority and autonomy and limit their ability to maximize their contribution. They feel shut out from the actual decision-making process. This frustration ultimately leads to disengagement and reduced productivity. Yves Morieuxs (senior partner and managing director at the Boston Consulting Group) recent Ted Talk, suggests a strategy to fix this problem and challenges management to rethink how they’re doing things. Morieux says that as work gets more complex, management adds more rules and buffers that minimize employees’ sense of empowerment at work. He suggests six rules for management to use that would simplify operations and that will also improve motivation, productivity and employee engagement. The six steps to increase productivity, motivation and engagement: simplify operations Understand what others do. Remove rules: Reinforce the “integrators” Integrators are managers. Give them more power and interest to make others cooperate. Remove the layers so they can be closer to the action. Stop making more rules that reduce the discretionary power to managers. Increase the quantity of power so you can empower everybody to use their judgment and their intelligence. Move away from insulation and give more people the opportunity to take risks. Create feedback loops that expose people to the consequences of their actions Increase reciprocity by removing buffers that make individual employees self-sufficient. Reward those who cooperate  and blame those who don’t cooperate.  The CEO of The Lego Group,  Jorgen Vig Knudstorp, has a great way to use it.  He says, blame is not for failure;  it is for failing to help or ask for help.  It changes everything.  Suddenly it becomes in my interest to be transparent  on my real weaknesses, my real forecast,  because I know I will not be blamed if I fail,  but if I fail to help or ask for help. The implication of breaking down barriers that impede individual employees from feeling engaged at work is profound. Morieux’s research shows that giving more people a voice and allowing more people to take risks is what will create the positive energy for workers to care about their jobs and the companies they work for. A system that makes people accountable combined with giving them the leeway to make decisions and the encouragement to cooperate with others leads to greater engagement, happier workers and increased productivity. The biggest companies can begin to operate more efficiently, like small ones, once they start behaving internally in a more entrepreneurial way. Showing concern for employees and empowering them to participate in the business requires a reevaluation of organizational management and processes. Morieux makes a strong case for empowering workers, reducing rules and building accountability as a strategy for companies to create more value at a reduced cost. The simplification of the structure itself is a step in moving from a bureaucracy to a human centered environment where people can thrive, contribute, feel genuinely valued and become committed to the organization’s mission. This strategy for increasing employee engagement could ultimately lead to increased motivation, productivity and retention of top employees. These lessons will be extremely useful for all companies seeking a competitive edge, especially for those that are growing rapidly and seeking ways to maintain a vibrant corporate culture.

After all, if you want to keep your job, its important that you dont do anything that will offend anyone from work or show yourself up! So make sure you stick to them to save any embarrassment or sticky situations! 1) Dont go overboard at the bar Yes, Christmas is the time of the year to be merry, but getting too drunk in front of your colleagues can be dangerous territory! Drinking too much could result in you doing or saying something that you will regret the next day, so dont go overboard. You should never drink on empty stomach either, so make sure that you eat something substantial that will line your stomach. This is where the buffet will come in handy! 2)  Stay hydrated Its Christmas, so youre probably going to want to enjoy a drink or two, but make sure that you drink plenty of water with any alcohol you consume during the party. Not only will it prevent you from getting dehydrated, but it will combat the negative effects of alcohol and no one wants to wake up with a killer hangover! 3) Avoid the mistletoe Office romances or dalliances can lead to a lot of awkwardness in the workplace, so make sure you dont do anything you will regret! Inhibitions are lowered when alcohol is flowing and its easy to let your judgement slip, so try to control yourself when Dutch courage is telling you to take the plunge with your office crush. 4) Dont talk about work The Christmas party is a time to let your hair down and celebrate the holiday season, so take a break from business! No one wants to spend the evening discussing things that should be kept to office hours or listening to somebody rant about all of their issues with the way things are running in the business. Have fun and forget work matters for the evening! 5) Be a social butterfly Use the party as an opportunity to get to know your colleagues a bit better on a more personal level and to talk to people who you dont usually spend time with. How I Found Joy Outside Of My Comfort Zone Yesterday afternoon, my husband challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and go “boogie boarding” in the Pacific Ocean â€" something we hadn’t done in a decade. I couldn’t believe it. What was he thinking? He and one of our daughters were due to leave for the airport in 3 hours. He knows I don’t like sand, seaweed, or being in cold water. And I had already showered and we had just gone out for a big lunch with my parents. More importantly, it’s the middle of winter and a storm was starting to brew. The waves were pretty choppy and no one else was in the water. The perfect time, right? Since it’s the new year, and since I write about courage and getting out of your comfort zone, I had to say yes. My sister Ann (who is much too sensible to take on such a dare) took some video of the episode In the end, I’m glad I took on the challenge. It was huge fun, and completely refreshing to be “out in the wild” when I’m usually at my laptop. It felt great to do something so different and to step out of my usual routine. It’s hard to beat catching the perfect wave and riding it in all the way to the beach. And when else do you get to scream with joy at the top of your lungs without turning heads? So when you are faced with the opportunity to do something outside of your comfort zone that could be refreshing, exhilarating and fun if you just went along with the right attitude, why not go for it?
